Retroreflectors are characterized by the parallel reflection of an incident light beam.

The reflector does not need to be mounted at right angles to the light beam.

Vibrations and distortions on the wall where the reflector is mounted also do not cause any disturbance.

Another advantage is that the possibly interfering light reflects on itself and therefore cannot reach the receiver.

A retroreflective prism is in the form of a flat pyramid whose lateral surfaces are isosceles and right-angled triangles.
